- Our service can be called at any time. You do not need to wait 36 hours if you do not wish to.
- Do not place food at the base of the tree. That will encourage other domestic animals and wildlife to gather there. If your cat is hesitant to come down with you at the base, you can be assured they will not want to come down if there are strange animals at the base.
- If you have access to the tree and can safely put food in a crook on a limb that you can reach from the ground.. Do so. Use wet food. or wet down the cat's regular diet into a wet mash. Even if they cannot/won't get down completely from the tree at least they have the option to climb down and get some nourishment. You MUST change the food daily to prohibit the food from spoiling.
- Although we do not recommend that a cat be treed for more than 36 hours, you can be rest assured that many cats are incredibly resilient creatures. In my years of experience I have seen cats be treed up to 9 days and finally come down when they "felt" like it.
- Some cats make this a profession. We had a cat in our town that would, when the opportunity presented itself, bolt through the door of the house, run blazingly fast across the street, and scale the neighbor's tree. This is the cat that is described in #4. This is also the main reason why our Fire Department no longer will send apparatus out for cats in trees.
- A climber can reach more areas of a tree than a ladder truck can in many cases.
- If your cat is treed please give it some quiet time. People standing at the base constantly calling for him/her will not allow them to catch some sleep. Sleep is very necessary for a cat; even up in a tree.
- What ever you do. Do NOT climb a tree unless you have the proper harnesses, ropes, and training. A good deed can turn into personal tragedy.
- I have seen de clawed(fronts) cats climb trees. They can get up some trees and it is very hard for them to come down. Those cats should not wait 36 hours for a rescue.
A cat rescue can take as short as an hour and as long as several days. If your cat is timid and wants to run and endanger himself on a limb I will not chase after him/her. I will, however set my lines so that I can go up the tree as often as you'd like to give your cat food/water and a chance to come down with me.
